Minutes - February 2015 Meeting
Revit Users Canberra (RUC) February 2015 Meeting The Dock, Kingston Foreshore.
Thursday 26th Feb 2015
On Thursday we had our first meeting for the year. I would like to thank all who attended. The following are the minutes for Thursdays meeting.Present:
Michael (Mick) Draper (Adam Hobill Design)Michael Dunn (Eric Martin & Associates
Angela Knock (Plan It Green)
Michel Onder (Moce)
Tim Baxter (Adam Hobill Design)
Chris Novak (Advanced Design & Drafting)
Sammy El-Aasar (Turco Associates)
Jeffery Nori (Student)
Name Change & BIM around Australia
- Mick passed around info about BrisBIM and Collaborate which are both organisations seeking to have a nation wide collaboration of BIM groups.
- Michael participated in the last phone hookup with Collaborate and felt it would be a good way forward for RUC to be involved
- Mick put forward to proposal to change our name from RUC (Revit Users Canberra) to CBR BIM or CAN BIM and encourage users of other software to also come along i.e ArchiCad, Microstation, Sketchup. Carried to change name from RUC to CBR BIM in keeping with the marketing of Canberra under the official city/airport code of CBR
- Early thinking that WA BIM setup is a good template for CBR BIM as they alternate every second month with a Revit focused meeting.
- Currently no Australian BIM standard and doesn't seem to be a push for one from Government unlike in the UK. Collaborate looking at creating an Australian Standard regardless of Government instigation.
Format of Monthly Meetings
- Mick and Michael called for people to put their hands to help with some of the content for monthly meetings to encourage more people to get along:
- 10 monthly meetings planned for the year (no meetings in Dec or Jan)
- Meetings to be held at 6pm on 3rd Thursday of the month
- Michael and Mick still be main organisers of CBR BIM but want input from others
- 1 presentation per meeting Possible ideas for presentation are:
- What's new in Revit -annual release (Michael Dunn)
- What's new in ArchiCad
- What's new in Microstation
- What's new in Sketchup
- Revit Technology Conference recap (Michael Dunn)
- Setting up Revit templates (Sammy El-Aasar)
- Michael and Mick still to be main organisers of CBR BIM but want input from others, especially for:
- Location to host monthly meetings. (Reid CIT is being investigated by Michael Dunn)
- Organise presentations by larger firms in order to attract their sponsorship (estimated about $100 per month for case of beer, soft drink and some pizzas)
- Monthly Presentations/topics
- Creation of WordPress site for CBR BIM (Michel Onder volunteered to look into this)
- Logo design for new name
Call to Action for next meeting
- Members to submit logo design for CBR BIM - must work in Black & White and Colour (Mick will buy a beer for the winner)
- 1 x Sponsorship idea from each member
- 1 x Presentation idea from each member
- Any venue suggestions

RTC Australasia 2015 - Early Bird Registration
Revit Technology Conference 2015
Earlybird registration is now open for this year's Revit Technology Conference Australasia to be held at Jupiter's Casino on the Gold Coast - May 14th to 16th.
The conference presents an excellent opportunity to not only learn through lectures, forums and hands-on labs but also to network with many other Revit users. Skill levels run from intermediate to guru level and encompass not only Revit itself but also how other software packages such as Navisworks, Solibri, Dynamo & Grasshopper (to name a few) integrate with Revit in the BIM process. Typically Autodesk representatives and the most learned in the Revit world attend so you will have a chance to gain insight into the development process and learn from the best.
Not only all of that but you get to exchange Canberra weather for Gold Coast weather for 4 nights in May.
Earlybird registrations gain a discount and it is advised to jump in early to get a spot in the hands-on labs which are limited in numbers due to available computers.
Co-coordinator of this group, Michael Dunn, will be giving a lab presentation on adaptive components and repeaters (those fences!) so it'd be great to have some familiar faces in the class.
Register Now
RUC meetings will resume in February and we will shortly be posting up a proposed schedule for this year's sessions which are likely to move to Tuesday nights to avoid a clash with other commitments. As always, suggestions on what you would like to hear about are most welcome, as are presenters and venues!
